School is out, temperatures are warming up, and cookouts are being planned. As summer activities begin, so does National Safety Month. Because most people do not have safety at the forefront of their minds, Oklahoma Farm Bureau wants to make sure you and your family remain safe throughout the summer.
- Be aware of surroundings. No matter if you are working on a combine or walking to your favorite store in the mall, pay attention to what or who is around you.
- Avoid distractions. Focus your mind on your task. Turn cell phones off and keep music to a low volume so it does not interfere with your work or driving.
- Never drive or operate machinery while impaired. Whether alcohol or medication, be aware of the effects they have on you.
- Pay attention to weather conditions. In sunny conditions, use sunscreen or wear layers to protect your skin. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated at all times.
- Leave all safety equipment in place. Never remove shields and guards and always wear the appropriate safety equipment for the job at hand.
During the month of June, OKFB will be bringing you several safety tips to help you and your family as fieldwork ramps up and summer vacations begin. For a full list of our safety services, visit our Safety page.
