The OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee (formerly the Women’s Committee) is committed to educating Oklahomans about agricultural issues and promoting the industry’s many benefits, while developing the leadership potential in women. Women are active in all phases of Farm Bureau – from county policy development to serving as delegates to the American Farm Bureau Federation national convention.
The OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee helps promote the importance of family and health, safety and crime prevention, state and national agricultural issues, voter awareness and citizenship, Agriculture in the Classroom, the Country Women’s Council and much more.
Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee programs
Farm City Festival
One of the Women’s Leadership Committee’s most popular activities is the Farm City Festival held at the state Capitol during the legislative session. Women from across the state bring food items produced in Oklahoma to educate lawmakers and their staffs about the Oklahoma agriculture industry.
Our Food Link
To recognize the outstanding efficiency and productivity of America’s farmers and ranchers, OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee members commemorate Our Food Link each year. Our Food Link recognizes the farmer’s contribution to the affordability of food in the United States. The event is held annually on the day of the year when, on average, Americans have earned enough income to pay for their yearly food supply.
Ag in the Classroom
The purpose of Oklahoma Agriculture in the Classroom is to help familiarize Oklahoma school children with Oklahoma’s number one industry – the food and fiber industry. Specially developed education modules about Oklahoma agriculture are available to Oklahoma teachers for students of all ages.
Oklahoma Farm Bureau is an integral part of the coalition supporting Agriculture in the Classroom. The OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee supports the Ag in the Classroom program through county projects, such as farm tours, school curriculum, tree plantings, pizza parties and much more.
Farm and ranch family recognition
The OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee honors district farm and ranch families who best represent farming and ranching and the spirit of Oklahoma agriculture.
One family from each of the nine OKFB districts will be chosen to receive recognition as a farm and ranch family. The Women’s Leadership Committee member from each OKFB district will coordinate choosing a family and distributing the recognition information sheet.
The families will receive prizes and recognition at Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting in November.
Nurse’s scholarship program
Members of the OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee understand the importance of the nursing profession in Oklahoma – and particularly in rural parts of our state – and how any and all financial support contributes to a student’s future.
To assist Farm Bureau members with the costs associated with receiving their education through a nursing program, we offer three $500 scholarships every year to qualifying students.
Download the brochure and application for the Nurse’s Scholarship on the Application Center page.
Emergency contact list
The Women’s Leadership Committee utilizes a fillable contact list when visiting various community groups. The contact list can be placed in child’s book bag, placed on the refrigerator, or given to caregivers.
