The U.S. Department of Agriculture this week posted notice that the $2.3 billion in supplemental Coronavirus Food Assistance Program payments will be temporarily suspended under the new administration’s regulatory freeze.
USDA FSA offices will continue to accept applications for the expansion of CFAP 1 and 2, but no payments will be distributed during the review.
“The pandemic has taken an unprecedented toll on American agriculture, and the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program has provided a lifeline for farmers and ranchers across the country,” American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall said in a statement. “Many growers who previously did not qualify for assistance continue to suffer losses and need the help CFAP provides. We appreciate that CFAP applications will continue to be accepted, and we encourage the swift resumption of distribution of resources to the people who are working to keep America’s pantries stocked.”
