Stillwater To Host Young Farmers and Ranchers

January 20, 2009

To get a glimpse of the future of Oklahoma agriculture, all you have to do is venture into the Cimarron Hotel and Suites in Stillwater, Jan. 23-25. That’s where the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers winter conference is scheduled to kick off with over 100 of the state’s best young producers in attendance.

“This is a great opportunity for young farmers and ranchers from throughout the state to learn from each other as well as some of the state’s top agricultural scientists,” said Sheila Taylor, coordinator of the weekend event. Sheila and her husband Tim farm north of Stillwater and look forward to showing off their town.

“Stillwater is a great location for this event because we can show them research at OSU and attend a major college sporting event,” Sheila said.

Highlights of the conference include touring the OSU Food and Agricultural Products Center, OSU wheat research plots near Marshall and Reproduction Enterprises, Inc. in Stillwater.

A leadership seminar with Dr. Sue Williams, head of the OSU department of Human Development and Family Science in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, will focus on developing more effective leaders.

Saturday’s activities conclude with attendance at the OSU Cowgirls basketball game.

The conference finale is Sunday morning when cowboy evangelist Marty Brock presents his spiritually uplifting “Roundup for Jesus.”

Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Public Policy team will wrap up the conference with a look at the upcoming 2009 Oklahoma legislative session.
