Oklahoma Farm Bureau welcomes the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry master black vulture depredation permit through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. Black vultures have continually caused problems for agriculture producers as the birds prey on newborn and adult livestock. These vultures are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which prohibits the take – including killing, capturing, selling, trading and transport – of migratory birds without permission from the USFWS. Kalley Whitlock, a sophomore at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M college, recently earned the inaugural Collegiate Farm Bureau scholarship presented by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee. Nine $1,000 scholarships awarded to high school seniors
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee has awarded nine $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors. Deadline for second round of PPP loans extended to May 31
The deadline for applications for the second round of Paycheck Protection Program loans has been extended to May 31, 2021, from its original March 31 deadline. USDA announces additional COVID-19 aid for producers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture this week announced its plans to distribute more than $12 billion under a program called Pandemic Assistance for Producers, which includes aid that had been put on hold as well as funds newly allocated in the Consolidated Appropriations Act. The program expands assistance to farmers helped by existing programs and assists farmers and ranchers who previously did not qualify for COVID-19 aid. OKFB Ag Tour to visit north central Oklahoma May 5-7
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members are invited to travel to north central Oklahoma during OKFB’s annual Ag Tour May 5-7. Previously known as commodity tour, the three-day tour will feature history, the way of life, the industry and commodities of the north central region. Buses will load for the tour at the OKFB home office in Oklahoma City, and tour attendees will stay two nights in a Perry-area hotel. Meals will be provided during the tour. More than 600 animals donated to Pork for Packs at OYE
Oklahoma FFA and 4-H students donated 632 animals to the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture’s Pork for Packs program during the 2021 Oklahoma Youth Expo. The Pork for Packs program uses donated animals to create protein sticks to be included in the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma backpack programs, which provide pre-assembled food sacks to chronically hungry elementary school children at no cost to the school or the child. OKFB supports ag youth at 2021 OYE Sale of Champions
Oklahoma Farm Bureau sponsored the state’s agricultural youth by purchasing more than $40,000 in premiums at the 2021 Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions on Friday, March 19 at the Jim Norick Arena at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. Before the sale started, OKFB was honored as the volume buyer for purchasing the most premiums at the 2019 sale due to last year’s cancelation. OKFB purchased premiums on 45 animals alongside fellow agricultural and rural organizations, as well as individuals.
