As the second session of the 57th Oklahoma Legislature began on Monday, Feb. 3, state legislators wasted no time getting to work on more than 4,500 pieces of legislation. The session began with Gov. Kevin Stitt’s State of the State in which he highlighted opportunities to improve rural health care as well as rural roads and bridges, two areas of importance to Farm Bureau members. YF&R now accepting applications for $1,000 scholarships
Update: Deadline extended to April 30, 2020 The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee is now accepting applications for its annual $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors who will pursue a higher degree in agriculture after graduation. Nine $1,000 scholarships, one from each OKFB district, will be awarded to high school seniors pursuing a career in agriculture at an Oklahoma institution of high learning as a full-time student. With a new governor, a new administration and many new faces in the state Legislature, 2019 was filled with excitement and optimism around what seemed like the beginning of a new era in Oklahoma. A number of new ideas on agriculture and rural issues were considered by the state Legislature, but many were put on hold for further discussion. YF&R Legislative Day to be held Feb. 17
Oklahoma Farm Bureau members ages 18 to 35 are invited to attend the organization’s Young Famers and Ranchers Legislative Day held Feb. 17 in Oklahoma City. The event is an opportunity for YF&R members to promote agriculture and rural Oklahoma at the state Capitol and learn more about Farm Bureau policy. Oklahoma Farm Bureau will be recognized for excellence in implementation of outstanding member programs and membership achievement during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 101st Annual Convention Jan. 17-22 in Austin, Texas. OKFB will receive four Awards of Excellence for demonstrating outstanding achievements in the program areas of advocacy, engagement and outreach, leadership and business development, and membership value.
