Burlington student wins Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom contest
Kutter Jewell, a sixth grade student at Burlington Elementary School, was recently recognized for his winning entry in the Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom storyboard contest. Jewell’s teacher is Alfalfa County Farm Bureau member Terry Pederson. The annual contest runs in conjunction with a cross-curricular AITC lesson that is aligned to several state standards. This year’s theme was “Oklahoma Agriculture: Oklahoma Strong,” and there were different types of contests for each grade level, including a poster contest, essay contest and bulletin board contest. OKFB Commodity Tour explores southwest Oklahoma
Oklahoma Farm Bureau will be holding 2014 Commodity Tour, Wagons West, in southwest Oklahoma this year. The tour will be March 31 to April 2 and will feature a variety of tours and customs in the southwest part of the state. Those attending the Commodity Tour will be staying at the beautiful Quartz Mountain Resort in Lone Wolf, Okla. As participants explore the southwest part of Oklahoma, they will also have the opportunity to learn the history and way of life in the area. Farm Bureau Week kicks off next Monday, Feb. 17 and will last until Friday, Feb. 21. This week allows Farm Bureau members to host different activities and events to help promote Farm Bureau within their communities. It is also a great opportunity for county Farm Bureaus to gain members and become active in the community. Oklahoma Farm Bureau Farm Bill statement
Oklahoma Farm Bureau commends the signing of the Agricultural Act of 2014 today. The farm bill passed the House on January 29 and the Senate on February 4. “The Farm Bill signed by President Obama is not perfect, but it does provide a safety net for producers through crop insurance reform and a permanent livestock disaster relief program,” OKFB President Tom Buchanan said. “We applaud Rep. Frank Lucas for his hard work on the bill and thank Congress for reaching a bi-partisan agreement.”

Our Food Link recognizes the farmer’s contribution to the affordability of food in the United States. The event is held annually on the day of the year when, on average, Americans have earned enough income to pay for their yearly food supply. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Leadership Conference will be held Feb. 17-18 in Oklahoma City at the Skirvin Hotel. The conference focuses on updating members on the legislative issues on state and federal levels.
