Oklahoma farmers are encouraged by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed Clean Water Rule, Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Rodd Moesel said in a recent Gaylord News story.
“We’re very encouraged,” Moesel said. “We’ve been working for several years to get the last rule, which we thought was a terrible overreach, moderated to where it made sense.”
The proposed rule replaces the Obama-era Water of the U.S., or WOTUS, rule that defined which waterways were regulated under the Clean Water Act. Farmers and ranchers across the country, including OKFB members, found the WOTUS rule to be burdensome government overreach.
The new Clean Water Rule’s 60-day comment period is open through April 15. Moesel said OKFB will provide comments on behalf of its members, “with hopes that ‘reasonable minds’ will prevail to clear up confusion introduced by the previous rule,” the article states.
