OKFB YF&R hosts state fair livestock judging contest

More than 1,300 students gathered at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds for the Oklahoma State Fair Livestock Judging Contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers on Sept. 16.

Students from third through 12th grades in 4-H and FFA competed in market and breeding classes of beef cattle, swine, sheep and goats.

Students in junior and senior age divisions evaluated each class and answered questions on two of the classes as individuals and as teams.

The High Individual and High Team Members of each division were presented a jacket and an award. Awards also were presented to the second- and third-place individuals and first- through third-place teams. Ribbons were awarded to the top 10 in each class.

The top three individuals in the junior 4-H division are Bodie Jefries, Kay County 4-H; Regan Maddox, Arapaho-Butler 4-H; and Kortney Campbell, Alfalfa County 4-H; and the top three teams are Kay County 4-H, Alfalfa County 4-H and Arapaho-Butler 4-H.

In the junior FFA division, the top three individuals are Ashlee Purvine, Thomas-Fay-Custer FFA; Selah Bentley, Laverne FFA; and Claire Janssen, Amber-Pocasset FFA. The top three teams are Amber-Pocasset FFA, Madill FFA and Kingfisher FFA.

Kinley Keyser, Central High 4-H; Clarissa Smith, Okfusee County 4-H; and Macy McEntire, Tuttle 4-H; are the top individuals in the senior 4-H division, and Kay County 4-H, El Reno 4-H and Tuttle 4-H are the top three teams in senior 4-H.

The top three individuals in the senior FFA division are Conner Pell, Adair FFA; Colten Ward, Cleveland FFA; and Connor Williams, Coalgate FFA. The top three teams are Adair FFA, Lindsay FFA and Tuttle FFA.
