The President of the state’s largest farm organization recently met with Farm Service Agency (FSA) officials in Stillwater to learn how new federal farm legislation will be implemented.
“We know producers are concerned about many of the details of the program and how it will impact their business,” said Steve Kouplen, Beggs. “This meeting put us on the same page with the FSA.”
The meeting covered FSA’s implementation of Farm Loan, Price Support, Conservation and Compliance programs.
The FSA staff has just completed national and state training on implementing the complex 2002 farm bill. The legislation requires participating producers and landowners to update base acres and yields on their farms. Specific sign-up dates have not been announced, but Kouplen encourages producers to exercise patience and understand FSA staff are working long hours during this crucial implementation process.
“We want everyone to know their options and make educated decisions and at the same time be patient with FSA staff as they diligently work on your behalf,” Kouplen said.
The Farm Bureau leader added the new program is aimed at boosting the rural economy and should benefit both farmers and consumers.
The FSA staff is participating in a series of August meetings sponsored by Oklahoma Farm Bureau focusing on policy development and current agriculture issues.
