It doesn’t take millions of dollars to start a ranch today. In fact, a August 16-17 seminar sponsored by the Oklahoma Grazing Lands Conservation Association (OGLCA) will demonstrate how a ranch can be profitable on considerably less than a million dollars.
"Grazing lands dollars and cents" is the theme for the conference to be held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, I-40 and Meridian, Oklahoma City.
"We’re going to show how young people can succeed and prosper in agriculture today," said Wally Olson, OGLCA chairperson and Vinita, OK rancher.
Featured speaker Dr. Barry Dunn, South Dakota State University will discuss new research showing how a properly structured ranching business can return annual profits of more than $35,000.
"This would provide a comfortable living for a young rancher wanting to get started in the business today," Olson said.
Other presenters include Alan Hubbard, Oldsburg, KS rancher, Dan Childs, Noble Foundation, Dr. Dick Divin, Arizona livestock nutritionist, Walt Davis, Bennington, OK rancher, and Bob Steger, Mertzer, Texas rancher.
The Oklahoma Grazing Lands Conservation Association’s main purpose is to promote the ecologically-sound and profitable use of private grazing lands.
A $100 registration fee is required for seminar participants. Registration for additional family members and employees is $50. The fee includes lunch on both days if you register before Aug. 9.
