Oklahoma Farm Bureau employees collected 1,367 pounds of nonperishable goods during their Halloween Harvest Feast food drive. In addition, $510 in cash was donated to purchas food.
“Our employees are a caring group of people who are always willing to help those in need,” said Angie Christopher, OFB vice president of Human Resources.
The employee food drive is part of Farm Bureau’s “Farmers Fighting Hunger” campaign launched last month. Farm Bureau members are asked to bring nonperishable items to the annual convention this weekend at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City.
“We want to make that connection between those who produce the food and those who need the food,” said Steve Kouplen, OFB President.
According to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, 500,000 Oklahomans are at-risk of going hungry, this includes 100,000 children.
The donated food and cash will provide meals for almost 4,500 hungry Oklahomans.
“We can’t thank Farm Bureau employees enough for their generosity,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
“Working together we can continue to fight hunger in Oklahoma,” said Sara Waggoner, executive director of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
The Farm Bureau food drive is in cooperation with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma in Tulsa. They service community soup kitchens, food banks and shelters in all 77 Oklahoma counties.
The food drive is a year-long effort by the farm organization to help stamp out hunger in Oklahoma.
