Americans are so accustomed to having a safe and reliable food supply that they rarely consider its source.
“American agriculture is responsible for providing the necessities of our everyday life – food, fiber, clothing and even fuel,” said Matt Wilson, Oklahoma Farm Bureau executive director.
“With National Ag Day Wednesday, it is a great opportunity for everyone to take a moment to consider everything that went into getting that meal on the dinner table.”
Farm Bureau will join producers, agricultural associations, universities, governmental agencies and others Wednesday for Ag Day at the Capitol.
“We want to share the great news that farmers today are producing not only more food, but higher quality food at a lower price to consumers. Farmers are,” Wilson said, “more efficient today than any time history.”
Today’s producers wear many hats. Not only are they good stewards of the land and environment, they also lead the way in technology advancements, food safety, animal care and generating a good economy.
Farmers and ranchers also are the first environmentalists, maintaining and improving the soil and natural resources to pass on to future generations.
“So the next time you enjoy your meal, remember that it wasn’t hatched on your grocery store’s shelf,” Wilson concluded.
