Derrick Davies recently joined the Oklahoma Farm Bureau (OFB) Legal Foundation as law clerk, and will continue in the position until May 2007.
Davies is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics. He will begin his third and final year of law school at Oklahoma City University this fall. Davies and his wife, Robyn, live in Stillwater, Okla.
A native of Fletcher, Okla., Davies is the product of a Farm Bureau family.
“My family have long been Farm Bureau members,” he said. “My great-grandfather, L.T. Hayes, was a Farm Bureau agent in Comanche County for 30 years,” he said.
In his position at OFB, Davies’ responsibilities will include assisting the OFB Legal Foundation in its management of legal issues from across rural Oklahoma, including environmental, annexation, land use, eminent domain and other important issues that affect agricultural producers and rural Oklahomans.
“I wanted a chance to use my legal education and background in an agricultural setting,” said Davies. “I am excited about the opportunity to work with Oklahoma’s agricultural producers and help with some of growing issues that they are facing in today’s changing agricultural landscape.”
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation was created in 2001 by the OFB Board of Directors. The Foundation strives to serve farmers and ranchers through engaging in public interest litigation, researching legal issues affecting family farmers and rural Oklahomans and educating farmers and ranchers and the public about issues important to agriculture.
