Oklahoma Farm Bureau members ages 18 to 35 are invited to attend the organization’s Young Famers and Ranchers Legislative Day held Feb. 18 in Oklahoma City. The event is an opportunity for YF&R members to network with one another, learn about Farm Bureau policy, and promote agriculture and rural Oklahoma at the state Capitol. YF&R members will be briefed at the OKFB home office on Monday, Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. before heading to the state Capitol to visit with lawmakers. YF&R to award nine $1,000 college scholarships
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee is now accepting applications for its annual $1,000 scholarships for high school seniors who will pursue a higher degree in agriculture after graduation. Nine $1,000 scholarships, one from each OKFB state board district, will be awarded to high school seniors pursuing a career in agriculture at an Oklahoma institution of high learning as a full-time student. Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers members will compete in three competitive events at the upcoming American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting Jan. 11-16 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Washita County Farm Bureau members Nocona and Jordan Cook will compete in the AFBF YF&R Achievement Award competitive event, which recognizes young farmers and ranchers who have excelled in their farm or ranch and have honed their leadership abilities. Johnston County member wins YF&R Excellence in Agriculture Award
Joshua Anderson of Mannsville was honored with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the organization’s annual meeting in Norman. Anderson is a third-generation farmer and rancher who raises beef cattle, grows forage crops, and manages natural resources on land first owned by his grandfather and father. “I was born and raised on a farm, so the passion for agriculture was instilled early on through our family farm,” Anderson said. Emma Jumper of Payne County was named the 2018 Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet winner on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s 77th Annual Meeting in Norman, Oklahoma. Jumper competed against eight other participants in three rounds of debate-style discussion where performance was evaluated on the exchange of ideas and information on pre-determined topics. OKFB members elect leaders at annual meeting
Three board members were re-elected by voting delegates at Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s 77th Annual Meeting Nov. 16-18 in Norman, Oklahoma. Monte Tucker of Sweetwater, Oklahoma, was re-elected to a three-year term on the OKFB board of directors representing District Two. He will serve Farm Bureau members in Beckham, Custer, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Kiowa, Roger Mills, Tillman and Washita counties. Members in District Five re-elected Gary Crawley of Savanna to serve a three-year term on the OKFB board of directors. Washita County couple named OKFB’s top young farmers and ranchers
Nocona and Jordan Cook were named Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award Winners at the organization’s 2018 annual meeting on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Norman, Oklahoma. The Cooks received the recognition for their dedication as young agriculturalists, raising cattle and growing wheat, hay, cotton and other crops in western Oklahoma’s Washita County. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers will host its annual discussion meet at the organization’s annual convention Nov. 16, 2018 in Norman, Oklahoma. The discussion meet is designed to replicate a committee meeting in which all participants are expected to discuss and actively contribute. Participants are evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic in three rounds of debate-style discussion.
