Wilke selected for Woman of the Year program
Monica Wilke, executive director of Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Affiliated Companies, has been selected as one of The Journal Record’s “50 Making a Difference” for 2015. This is part of The Journal Record’s Woman of the Year program, which recognizes Oklahoma’s leading women excelling in professional leadership and community activities. OKFB WLC Nurse’s Scholarship July 15 deadline approaching
The deadline for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee’s Nurse’s Scholarship is July 15. The annual scholarship program awards three $500 scholarships to students studying nursing at an accredited college, university, vo-tech or trade school. Applicants must be Oklahoma Farm Bureau members or a member of a Farm Bureau member family. The WLC understands the important role nurses and healthcare professionals play in ensuring a high quality of life for all residents across our state, and especially rural residents. OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee hosts Youth Safety Day
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee hosted its first Safety Day on June 4 at the OKFB home office in Oklahoma City. At the event, 12- to 17-year-old youth from around the state learned ATV safety, fire safety, DUI prevention, poison control and more. “We want our children, our young people, and even parents to be aware of safety,” said Kitty Beavers, chair of the OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee. Throughout the day, students cycled through stations that focused on safety in various situations. OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee donates to Ronald McDonald House Charities
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee recently donated $600 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City as a part of the “Our Food Link” initiative. In addition to the donation made by state women’s committee, Oklahoma County Farm Bureau also donated $100 to the charity organization. OKFB women have had a long history of partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, donating time and money in many capacities over the last several years. The Women’s Leadership Committee will be hosting their annual Winter Rally Dec. 5-6 at the NCED Conference Center and Hotel in Norman. The event will feature a trade show and silent auction for all participants. Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Team donates books to elementary schools in Moore
In Moore, Oklahoma, Plaza Towers Elementary School and Briarwood Elementary School are both gearing up for a busy year as students return to class. However, these two schools are different than others because both of these schools were destroyed during the May 20, 2013, tornado. OKFB Women’s Leadership Team hosting Summer Conference
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Team will hold its 2014 Summer Conference on July 11 and 12 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. The conference will take place in the Reed Center attached to the Sheraton Midwest City hotel. The two-day leadership training event will include: breakout sessions covering social media, fraud protection, election candidates and more; a presentation by OKFB member Marcy Luter; and an informational tour of the Oklahoma State University – Oklahoma City gardens. Oklahoma Farm Bureau receives grant from AFBF Women’s Leadership Team
From a strong field of applicants, three state and four county Farm Bureaus were selected to each receive a $700 grant from the American Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee to help fund “Our Food Link” activities. Grant recipients are: Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Utah Farm Bureaus; Dickey County (North Dakota), Franklin County (Virginia), Jerome County (Idaho) and Summit County (Ohio).
