Oklahoma Farm Bureau names nine 2014 Champion Award recipients
Oklahoma Farm Bureau recognized nine of the state’s top agricultural advocates to receive the Oklahoma Farm Bureau 2014 Champion Award. The OKFB Champion Award is presented to legislators and political leaders who go above and beyond to protect and improve agriculture and rural Oklahoma during the legislative session. Rural Opportunity Zone bill good for rural Oklahoma
The Oklahoma House of Representative passage of HB 1747 is being hailed by Farm Bureau as good for rural Oklahoma. The bill allows for the creation of 25 Rural Opportunity Zones. Beginning in 2016, this bill would allow for a five-year tax exemption for anyone who moves from out-of-state into a county projected to see a population loss. The bill’s primary author is Rep. Tom Newell. During our conversations with House Speaker Jeff Hickman, a co-author of the legislation, we know he realizes the importance of rural Oklahoma and the impact the area has on the state’s economy.
YF&R Legislative Day postponed
The Young Farmers and Ranchers Legislative Day that was scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2015, has been postponed to a later date. The group is looking at hosting the event later on in the legislative session. For more information, contact Holly Carroll at (405) 523-2307.
OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee donates to Ronald McDonald House Charities
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee recently donated $600 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma City as a part of the “Our Food Link” initiative. In addition to the donation made by state women’s committee, Oklahoma County Farm Bureau also donated $100 to the charity organization. OKFB women have had a long history of partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, donating time and money in many capacities over the last several years. OKFB Congressional Action Tour set for April 12-16
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Congressional Action Tour is scheduled for April 12-16, 2015, in Washington, D.C. This tour gives OKFB members an opportunity to visit with legislators and federal leaders about issues of importance to rural Oklahoma. Members wil have the opportunity to hear from American Farm Bureau on a variety of issues along with visiting Congressional Representatives and Senators. The trip will also feature a Legislative Reception and an option tour of Monticello. Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. OKFB Leadership Conference is canceled, will be rescheduled
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Leadership Conference scheduled for Feb. 16-17, 2015, has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. Several other Farm Bureau week activities have also been canceled for today so be sure to check with your local Farm Bureau office for an update on events and activities. County Farm Bureaus host events during Farm Bureau Week, Feb. 16-20
Farm Bureau Week kicks off next Monday, Feb. 16 and will last until Friday, Feb. 20. This week allows Farm Bureau members to host different activities and events to help promote Farm Bureau within their communities.
