The Tulsa World newspaper this morning is featuring an article covering how the U.S. federal government shutdown is affecting Oklahoma farmers and ranchers. Oklahoma Farm Bureau President Rodd Moesel is quoted in the article, “There doesn’t seem to be too much kickback,” but notes that the longer the shutdown continues, the more likelihood there is that our state’s agriculturalists will feel a pinch. In the final stretch of the consideration of the 2018 farm bill, the U.S. Senate yesterday passed the 2018 farm bill conference report on a vote of 87 to 13. The bipartisan five-year legislation encompasses a broad array of agriculture, nutrition, conservation and forestry policy.  Both Sen. Jim Inhofe and Sen. James Lankford voted in favor of the bill.
