The 2015 Oklahoma State Fair livestock judging contest, sponsored by Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers, will be held Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. in Barn 3 at Oklahoma State Fair Park. The contest will consist of market beef, goats, sheep and swine and/or breeding classes. 4-H juniors include ages nine through 14 and FFA juniors include grades eight, nine and 10. Milliman joins OKFB as northeast field representative
Gage Milliman recently joined the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Field Services Division as the northeast field representative. Milliman started with OKFB on July 31. In his new position, Milliman will assist 13 Farm Bureau county offices and boards in northeast Oklahoma including Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Delaware, Mayes, Muskogee, Nowata, Okmulgee, Ottawa, Rogers, Sequoyah, Tulsa and Wagoner counties. “I have always had a passion for agriculture,” Milliman said. “I have been a Farm Bureau member and county board member for several years. The website serves as a central location for all information regarding the SQ 777 campaign. Users can sign up to volunteer, register to vote and find campaign event dates. Eradicating Oklahoma’s feral hogs
Can feral hogs be eradicated in Oklahoma? Josh Gaskamp, a wildlife and range consultant for the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, is working to find out. Feral hogs cause an estimated $800 million to $1.5 billion in agricultural and environmental damage in the United States each year, Gaskamp said. With numbers estimated between 617,000 and 1.4 million, Oklahoma is ranked in the top four states with the highest population of feral hogs. The invasive species is found in all 77 Oklahoma counties. Duncan joins OKFB as public policy coordinator, Martin named director of safety services
Tasha Duncan, a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, recently joined the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Public Policy Division as a public policy coordinator. Duncan is responsible for Public Policy Division scheduling, Capitol visit scheduling, event planning, ethics reporting and more. OKFB August Area Meeting dates released
Oklahoma Farm Bureau has announced the tentative details for its annual August Area Meetings, which serve as the beginning of the grassroots policy development process. The meetings allow Farm Bureau members from across the state to gather and discuss issues impacting agriculture and rural Oklahoma. Young farm and ranch leaders flock to Stillwater for annual meeting
Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers and Ranchers held their annual conference July 10-11 in Stillwater, where more than 50 young agriculturalists gathered to learn about agriculture, expand their leadership capabilities and make connections. The group of young leaders from around the state heard from a variety of presenters on a wide range of agricultural topics during the two-day event. Farm Family of the Year applications due July 31
The application deadline is drawing near for Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee’s Farm Family of the Year award, which recognizes a top farm and ranch family in rural Oklahoma. Applications from around the state must be submitted by July 31. Once applications from around Oklahoma are collected, a farm family from each of the nine OKFB districts will be chosen to represent their region at the OKFB annual meeting in Oklahoma City.
