Students participate in state livestock judging contest
More than 900 students participated in the Sept. 17 Oklahoma State Fair Livestock Judging Contest, sponsored by Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers. Contest participants analyzed classes of beef, goats, sheep and swine and ranked the animals based on correct market characteristics. “It’s such a good thing for the kids,” said Zac Harris, state YF&R chairman. “It’s also a good thing for Farm Bureau, too. Three county Farm Bureaus donate to State Question 777 campaign
Comanche County Farm Bureau, Cotton County Farm Bureau and Stephens County Farm Bureau each recently donated $10,000 to the State Question 777 campaign. The Cotton County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee also contributed $500 to the campaign. At August Area Meetings during the past few weeks, county Farm Bureaus across Oklahoma were challenged to donate $10,000 to the SQ777 campaign. Monica Wilke, executive director of Oklahoma Farm Bureau and Affiliated Companies, has been selected as one of The Journal Record’s “50 Making a Difference” for 2015.
