The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee presented Debra Deskin, Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom’s 2017 teacher of the year, with a gift card to help purchase school supplies during Ag Day at the Capitol Wednesday, March 29 in Oklahoma City. Deskin, a second-grade teacher at Orvis Risner Elementary with more than 13 years of teaching experience, brings agriculture into the classroom using lessons from the AITC curriculum. OKFB supports ag youth at 2017 OYE Sale of Champions
Oklahoma Farm Bureau purchased premiums on livestock as the organization supported Oklahoma’s agriculture youth during the 2017 Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions Friday, March 17 in Oklahoma City. Before the start of the 2017 sale, OKFB received the 2016 OYE volume buyer award for purchasing the most premiums at the 2016 sale with 34 animals. Oklahoma County Farm Bureau will host an open house to celebrate their new location in Edmond at 10 a.m. on March 29, 2017. OKFB dedicates new plaza in commemoration of 75th anniversary
Oklahoma Farm Bureau recently announced the celebration of the organization’s 75th anniversary in 2017. To commemorate this milestone, OKFB dedicated a new plaza March 7 in a private event at their headquarters located near the State Capitol in Oklahoma City. With 95,000 members statewide, Oklahoma Farm Bureau is connected to County Farm Bureaus in all 77 Oklahoma counties. The plaza contains 77 pillar sculptures, each one in the shape of one of the state’s counties. The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee will hold their annual Youth Safety Day on Friday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the OKFB home office in Oklahoma City. OKFB YF&R Golf Classic to be held May 12
The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers will hold their 15th annual YF&R Golf Classic Friday, May 12 at SilverHorn Golf Club in Oklahoma City. The annual scramble-style tournament opens with check-in at 11:30 a.m., and golfers will tee off at 1 p.m. Several prizes will be awarded, and lunch will be provided. All proceeds from the event will be given to benefit the OKFB Legal Foundation. Registration is being accepted now through May 5 for teams and individuals. OKFB partners with Love’s Travel Stops, Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma to fund fire relief
In the wake of devastating wildfires throughout northwest Oklahoma, Oklahoma Farm Bureau has partnered with Love’s Travel Stops and Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma to fund relief for fire victims. The three organizations have furnished gift cards for fuel to those transporting donated hay to the affected area. “It’s in these times of disaster that we see the true spirit of Oklahomans. Oklahoma Farm Bureau members will travel to the Heart of the Arbuckles in central Oklahoma during OKFB’s annual commodity tour May 3-5. The three-day tour will feature history, way of life, customs, industry and commodities of the south-central area. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit a variety of farms and agribusinesses, including Valley View Pecans, Red Oak Farms, the Noble Foundation and much more. If you would like to donate relief effort funds, please make checks payable to Oklahoma Farming and Ranching Foundation and put “Fire Relief” in the memo line and send to 2501 N. Stiles, Oklahoma City, OK 73105. If farmers and ranchers need hay, please reach out to the Harper County Extension Office at 580-735-2252. Emergency donations and information is available below. The immediate needs are hay and trucking services to transport hay. Below are the drop-off points if you would like to donate hay.
