Cade Baldwin of Stephens County, Cheyanne Gibbens of Okmulgee County and Logan Hukill of Caddo County each recently were awarded a scholarship to study nursing by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee. The annual scholarship program awards three $500 scholarships to students studying nursing at an accredited college, university, vo-tech or trade school. Pace Mittlestaedt of the Amber-Pocasset FFA Chapter was named the winner of the 2018 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers High School Discussion Meet held July 17 during the Oklahoma State University Big Three Field Days in Stillwater. YF&R members gather in southwest Oklahoma for summer conference
Nearly 60 young agriculturalists gathered in southwest Oklahoma to tour local farms and ag-related industries, network with fellow farmers and ranchers, hear from political candidates and more during the 2018 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Conference held July 13-15 at the Quartz Mountain Resort in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. Twelve Oklahoma high school students recently were chosen to attend the Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture leadership conference to be held July 23-25 in Oklahoma City. The OYLA conference is a three-day annual event hosted by OKFB’s Young Farmers & Ranchers to prepare high school students for a future career in agriculture and to advance youth leadership. OKAgFund expands candidate support in preparation for August runoff
The OKAgFund board met Thursday, June 28, to give an additional $41,250 in financial support to political candidates running in statewide, state Senate and state House races ahead of the August 28 runoff primary election. The OKAgFund is the political action committee of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. The OKAgFund board, a grassroots committee of OKFB members from around the state, increased financial support for 15 candidates, gave first-time financial support to 18 candidates and gave one new OKAgFund endorsement, building upon the financial support and endorsements awarded in May. Oklahoma voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, June 26 to decide each party’s candidate for the state’s next governor, along with 98 House seats and 20 Senate seats. The OKAgFund, Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s political action committee, met last month to identify candidates that support agriculture and rural Oklahoma. Comprised of OKFB members from across the state, the OKAgFund identifies candidates who demonstrate beliefs and actions that are consistent with OKFB’s policies, regardless of political affiliation. The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the 2018 farm bill, also known as the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 (H.R. 2). OKFB joins opposition to SQ 788
Oklahoma Farm Bureau this week has joined a group of statewide business, medical, faith and community leaders in opposing State Question 788 on the June 26 primary ballot. SQ 788 would amend Oklahoma state statutes to legalize medical marijuana. OKFB joined the SQ 788 is Not Medical Coalition, following a vote by the organization’s board of directors.
