Nowata County Farm Bureau plays an active role in its county’s communities by sponsoring the member’s children at the Nowata County Spring Livestock Show and Fair, sponsor the annual Washington County/Nowata County legislative breakfast, host a defensive driving class for both members and non-members and distribute Thanksgiving baskets to Nowata County residents that are in need.

Several notable people are from Nowata County, some of those being Al Downing, Chris Penn, Howard “Shoat” Webster, Fred Lowry, Buck Rutherford and Matt West.

Nowata County is situated in the heart of cattle country, housing several large cattle ranches. In addition to cattle, the main crops are wheat, soybeans, and hay.
